Astral offers specialized project charters for various types of project-related cargoes. Amongst these are mining cargo, oil-field equipment, telecommunication equipment, drilling equipment, heavy-engineering products, motor vehicles and spares, to name but a few.
Since its inception, Astral has uplifted over 15,000 tons of mining equipment to the gold-mining fraternity in Western Tanzania which is being served on a twice weekly schedule service from Nairobi - Mwanza - Nairobi with a total capacity of 30 tons per week.
Astral is the preferred airline for the mines in Western Tanzania due to its reliability and efficiency on a route which it has dominated since the Year 2000.
Oil & Gas Cargo
In June 2013, Astral commenced a new oil and gas product from Nairobi - Pemba (Mozambique) which is currently served once a week via Dar-es-salaam with an optional stop in Mtwara (Mozambique) with a total capacity of 15 tons.
Astral has since expanded its network to also include Moroni, Juba and Mogadishu for emerging oil and gas projects in the region.
In June 2014, Astral will commence a schedule F27 service from Nairobi - Lokichar (Turkana Province / Kenya) which will service the requirements of the oil exploration companies in the Turkana and surrounding regions in Northern Kenya.
In 2014/5, Astral Aviation will operate a Freighter on charter basis in its new Lagos hub which will be gradually expanded by two B737-400F's to cater for the oil and gas cargoes in West Africa which is currently being under-served due to lack of capacity.
Astral is in the forefront in uplifting peacekeeping cargoes from its Nairobi hub to various regions intra-Africa.
In 2012, Astral commenced the uplift of perishables and peacekeeping equipment for the Japanese Contingent in Juba, South Sudan which was moved initially from Nairobi and was later transferred to Entebbe. Astral continues to meet the requirements for the Japanese Contingent todate.
In September 2013, Astral was contracted to uplift a consignment of perishables for the UN Troops in Somalia which is currently on going and has increased from 5 tons per week to 24 tons per week.
Astral Aviation specializes in the transportation of election materials having provided an airfreight service for elections in various parts of Africa including East Africa, Sudan, Comoros and D.R. Congo.
