Astral Aviation joins AFRAA Cargo Steering Committee

On 29-30 September 2016, the AFRAA Secretariat brought together Heads of Cargo of its member airlines for the launch of the Cargo Steering Committee which has been included among the projects of the Association. The meeting, which was held in Nairobi, reviewed the concept paper and discussed in detail the proposed areas of mutual support and beneficial cooperation among members on cargo operations with the aim to develop and grow the members’ cargo business in Africa and beyond.

Eng. WalaaYousri, Vice President Cargo Operations at EgytptAir was elected as the Chairman of the Project and Mr. Sanjeev Gadhia, Chief Executive Officer at Astral Aviation was elected as Vice Chairman. EngYousri thanked members for their cooperation and contribution to the meeting and was optimistic that members would be able to realize value in cargo operations for airlines through the project.

Astral Aviation’s CEO, Sanjeev Gadhia, made a presentation on “Overview Situation of air cargo in Africa”.

AFRAA Director Commercial Corporate & Industry Affairs, DrKoussaiMrabet highlighted to members that through their continued participation, airlines would be able to overcome the challenges being faced in cargo operations by the respective airlines and that the project was an opportunity to build a better future for Cargo by AFRAA members.

Eng. Yousri also thanked AFRAA for providing such a platform for African airlines to identify common solutions on the aspect of cargo which has not been accorded as much attention as passenger operations. The meeting was attended by 16 participants representing 9 airlines.
